Mothers Day Present For The Active Mum

If your mum is more into thrills and adventure than fancy wine or chocolate, then why not really push the boat out this Mothers Day. Mothers Day presents for your active mum can be difficult to find however, just because she is up for a bit of excitement does not necessarily mean she wants to throw herself off a ledge on a bungee rope!

The perfect gift is hot air ballooning, with all the exhilaration and adventure a mum could want, yet with a distinctly relaxed feel. Most people would love to try hot air ballooning, but never really get round to actually doing it. This year surprise your mum and treat her to a day she will never forget.

At heights of up to 3,000 feet she will enjoy a panoramic view of the countryside below. Despite the height there is surprisingly almost no wind. This is due to an effect cause where you are moving with the wind, so you will only feel the minor effects when ascending or descending. Not only that, ballooning is a very tranquil and peaceful experience.

The only sounds will come from the gas burner that is used periodically to keep the air inside the balloon warm so that it remains afloat. This also means that any fear of heights is normally not a problem as ballooning is slow and steady. The basket does not sway or rock and because you are travelling on the wind there is no turbulence like there would be in a plane.

This experience will be like no other. Every balloon flight is unique, as the balloon can only fly with the direction of the wind! This might sound slightly scary yet the balloon will be piloted by an experienced pilot. Due to the unpredictable nature of balloon flights these are always fully trained professionals.

As you might have guessed, where you land is also rather unpredictable! As such there will be ‘chasers’ following on the ground in vehicles. They will meet up with you when and where the balloon lands to drive your mum back to the start location, after she has helped to stow it away.

Hot air balloons have a lot of heritage and history, first used in Paris over 300 years ago it was the first (successful) attempt by man to fly. In following with tradition your flight will end with a champagne toast on the ground after landing.

The toasting ceremony was originally held so that the farmer in whose field you land would not be quite as angry, as it was customary to invite him to join in the toast! Nowadays things are different, and permission is granted by local farm owners, yet the tradition remains to always drink champagne upon landing, to celebrate the successful trip.

So if you are having difficulty finding Mothers Day presents for your active mum then look no further than hot air ballooning! With the choices of a sunrise ride or evening, and locations all over England and Wales, there is no excuse for your mum not to enjoy all the wonder and excitement offered by this fascinating view of the countryside.
